Sheyla Padilla, known for her work in the dental industry, operates under the business name Red Hills Dental. They serve as a dedicated dental assistant within the practice, having collaborated with Dr. Bergman since February 2019 when he acquired the establishment.
Originally hailing from California, Sheyla spent the early part of her life there before relocating to Las Vegas, NV, during her sixth-grade year. Following the 2007-2008 financial crisis and its impact on the construction industry in Las Vegas, she moved to Saint George in 2008 with her two young children and their father to seek new opportunities.
Sheyla’s journey into the dental field began in August 2012 when her niece, working at a dental office, informed her of a bilingual full-time position. Dropping off a resume led to a career that Sheyla has embraced ever since. Passionate about dental procedures and continuously learning, they appreciate the guidance of Dr. Bergman, who encourages professional development and knowledge acquisition.
The satisfaction of helping others defines Sheyla’s favorite aspect of their career. Whether educating patients during initial exams or providing relief from toothaches, the joy of witnessing patients’ happiness, especially when revealing a new smile, is a profound source of fulfillment.
A pivotal moment reaffirming Sheyla’s commitment to dentistry occurred in 2014 when health reasons prompted a temporary hiatus. Upon returning to visit friends and their former office, an unexpected opportunity to fill in for two days reignited the passion and alignment with their chosen profession.
Beyond the dental realm, Sheyla is a devoted mother to two children, a 19-year-old daughter attending UVU and a 16-year-old son. Engaged to their best friend, Sheyla enjoys cooking and indulging in “who dunnit” shows. Despite a dislike for extreme temperatures, occasional camping and newfound appreciation for fishing (courtesy of their son) make their outdoor activities diverse. Girlie pampering sessions with their daughters bring joy, and Sheyla cherishes witnessing her daughter’s growth into a remarkable young lady.
With a love for country music and Italian cuisine, Sheyla values family time with their two dogs and a kitty. Embracing life’s challenges, they find joy in exploring travel and concerts, especially in Las Vegas, now that their children are older. Life’s beautiful struggles are met with enthusiasm, as their family thrives on overcoming challenges.
McKaylee Burton is a valued Dental Assistant at Red Hills Dental. Graduating from Riverton High School in 2017, McKaylee embarked on her journey in the dental field by completing a Dental Assisting Program in 2022. Her family made the move to St. George in November 2022, coinciding with her starting her role at Red Hills Dental in December 2022.
Dental assisting is a family tradition for McKaylee, and she decided to follow suit, discovering her love for the dental field. What she finds most rewarding is witnessing the transformation in people’s smiles and observing the growth in their confidence.
McKaylee’s realization that she was in the right profession came from the anticipation of coming to work each day, enjoying the camaraderie with her coworkers, and relishing the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of her patients.
Beyond her professional life, McKaylee is the second of four daughters. She has a passion for reading and writing, delights in playing with her dog, and finds joy in music, movies, and cooking. McKaylee also dedicated two years to studying American Sign Language (ASL) at UVU, reflecting her commitment to communication and inclusivity.
Emily VanOtten, is the Front Office Manager at Red Hills Dental. Born and raised in Orem, Utah, Emily is a Utah County native with 30 years of experience, later spending 13 years in Salt Lake County. Seeking warmer climates and sunshine, she made the move to St. George five years ago and hasn’t looked back since, preferring the sun on her face and her feet in the desert sand over snow and cold.
Emily’s journey in the dental industry began 18 years ago in Pediatric Dentistry, where she started as a surgical assistant for her children’s dentist in Orem. Initially a part-time position, her role evolved into full-time, transitioning from assisting in Pediatrics to front office management. Despite her initial connection to Pediatric Dentistry, Emily’s passion expanded to include the general dental field, appreciating the diverse interactions with families, the elderly, and children of various ages and personalities.
In her role as Front Office Manager, Emily finds joy in keeping both her dental family and patients happy. She believes in treating people with kindness, sincerity, and honesty, ensuring the best dental experience and utilizing resources efficiently. Knowing she’s in the right profession is affirmed when patients genuinely thank her for going the extra mile to provide them with the best experience possible.
Outside of work, Emily is a proud mother of four amazing children—three boys and one girl—ranging in age from 28 to 14. She shares her home with two cats, Bella and Chubz. Nature enthusiast, Emily loves the sun, gardening, and exploring farmers markets for fresh produce and flowers. She has a passion for concerts and music of all genres, enjoys hiking, beaches, and discovering “new” quaint old small towns. As she embraces a quieter, simpler life, Emily also values a healthy lifestyle but occasionally indulges in a good “emotional support” doughnut or piece of pie during the week.
